YMCA to host its 20 annual job fair

Job seekers and employers will have a chance to network at the 20th annual YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka job fair.

The event is in partnership with the Huntsville Lake Bay Chamber of Commerce and will be held April 10 at the Jack Bionda Arena starting at 11 a.m.

Saleem Hall, employment specialist and community liaison with the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka, says job seekers will have the opportunity to connect with over 40 growing employers.

“The idea of this job fair is to get employers and job seekers in one room to support the labor force needs as we move not just into the summer season, which is historically very busy for us, but also to promote long-term, year-round employment opportunities,” says Hall.

He says they have seen over the years around 500 people attending the job fairs, adding they have had good feedback from employees and employers.

“The expectation really is about meeting the needs of the employers that come out there,” he says.

Hall says job fairs are beneficial for both employers, who can identify their hiring needs, and job seekers, who can learn what skills are valued by companies in today’s job market.

“How many times have you sent out a resume and you don’t know what it’s going to?,” says Hall. “It’s really nice for people to put a face to a name, to put it face to an organization, grab a business card, and maybe even doing some follow-up.”
