The Town of Gravenhurst has awarded $30,000 in grants to nine local organizations.
The grants are part of the Terence Haight Financial Assistance Program which offers limited grants to organizations within the municipality to assist with activities, special events or with an improvement to the organization’s existing assets.
The organizations that received the funding are the following:
- Gravenhurst High School Robotics – $2,100
- Gravenhurst Curling Club – $7,000
- Gravenhurst Women’s Group – $500
- Muskoka Ringette Association – $2,000
- Royal Canadian Legion, Harry Wray Branch 302 – $1,700
- Royal Canadian Legion, Ladies Auxiliary – $4,000
- Severn Bridge Agricultural Society – $4,700
- Trinity United Church – $6,500
- YWCA Muskoka Girlz Unplugged – $1,500
“On behalf of council and staff, I want to congratulate all our recipients and thank them for the good work they do in our community,” said Mayor Heidi Lorenz.
According to officials, the town has been granting funding annually since 2014, adding funding is possible thanks to a $1 million-plus gift to the community by the late Terence Haight.
The application process for the latest funding round ran from September to December, after which the Community Grants Committee reviewed the applications and council approved their funding recommendations in February of this year.
