The District of Muskoka has lifted the State of Emergency declared after the late March ice storm.
Officials say as of today (April 14), the District is transitioning from emergency response to long-term recovery with immediate risks now managed and essential services largely restored.
“We want to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who stepped up when our communities needed it most, from the province, area municipalities and local emergency services to hydro crews, volunteers, and neighbours helping neighbours,” says District Chair Jeff Lehman.
According to Lehman, although the region is used to severe weather, this winter has been “very tough.”
“Muskoka has once again come together during a time of crisis. We’re incredibly grateful for the strength and compassion that’s been shown across Muskoka, and we’ll continue to be there for our residents as the clean-up continues,” he says.
Officials say the decision to lift the State of Emergency shows the progress made in recovery efforts, including restoring power to most residents and clearing roads to allow for safe access and travel throughout Muskoka.
Officials add while the declaration has ended, work continues alongside area municipalities and community partners to support residents in the weeks and months ahead.
