Renters in Muskoka are showing a preference to live in non-smoking multi-complexes.
This information comes from the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, which is promoting the idea of non-smoking apartments to local landlords.
Tobacco Program Coordinator at the Health Unit, Leslie Gordon, says the benefits are clear for landlords.
Gordon says a landlord offering a new lease can legally put a smoke-free by-law into the lease before the tennant signs it.
She says about 80 per cent of the population in Muskoka are non-smokers.
