Bracebridge OPP is currently investigating an online cottage rental scam.
Police say the scam is set up by suspects posting an advertisement of a cottage for rent on the internet. It includes pictures of the cottage and rental information. The suspects will then ask for money to be transferred electronically to a bank account.
Once the transaction is complete, the renter attends the cottage to find the owner was unaware of the transaction.
Police are reminding everyone when renting a cottage online to review the safety tips prior to making any purchases. For more information visit the anti-fraud centre’s website.
