Changing the road maintenance system in Muskoka could mean more money for each municipality. Huntsville Mayor Scott Aitchison is proposing all six municipalities stop paying to the District of Muskoka roads division, which totals around $25 million.
He says that payment would be moved from the District portion of your tax bill to the Huntsville portion.
He says that’s to maintain the current roads, and put money aside for future projects like replacing bridges. Aitchison also notes there is a real advantage for the townships, because they could cut taxes. He says the spending for their road network could be dramatically decreased, allowing for some savings.
