Huntsville looking to unload CNR Train Station

Huntsville taxpayers may soon see some relief when it comes to the CNR Train Station. Council is looking to unload the heritage building, after buying it for $1 in 2003.

Mayor Scott Aitchison says the deal was the town had to maintain the building, and fix any problems it might have run into. And since then, they’ve had a number of issues with it.

Mould is now growing in the basement, which Aitchison says is dangerous for anyone’s health who may be down there. It’s costing the town around $100,000 to clean up.

The Mayor also points out more more money will have to be put into the building down the line.

Aitchison says the town is now going to see if anyone is interested in taking it over.

Aitchison says the Huntsville Historical Society has said it might be interested, as well as some private companies. The town will now put out a Request for Proposal to see what the options are.
