It’s a year away, but Huntsville is celebrating now

Muskokans are getting a chance to learn more about an upcoming provincial competition. TheĀ Ontario 55+ Winter Games are happening in Huntsville in 2019, and the town is hosting a community celebration next week to go over open volunteer roles, and to introduceĀ the General Manager of the gamesĀ Sheri Renaud. The event is hosted byĀ the Chair of the organizing committee Fran Coleman, and will also introduce the rest of theĀ organizing committee as well as representatives from the Ontario Senior Games Association and Games Ontario.

Over 1,000 athletes will be in Huntsville next March to compete in 10 events, including alpine skiing, curling, ice hockey, and ten-pin bowling. Events are expected to take place in a variety of locations, includingĀ the Canada Summit Centre, resort meeting rooms, and schools. Ontarioā€™s Ministry of Tourism, Sport and Culture is investingĀ $235,000 into the winter games. This is the second time Huntsville has hosted the event.

The community celebration is on March 7th at 4:30pmĀ at Huntsville Bowl on Cann Street.
