The OPP is reminding Muskoka residents to stay clear of waterways.
With warmer temperatures settling into the area, including double-digit highs next week, local streams and rivers are a serious danger. As spring thaws things out the water levels rise, a problem made worse thanks to the rain.
Banks and shorelines become slippery and unstable making for a dangerous mix. Rivers will be moving fast with strong currents and the water is still dangerously cold. The OPP says people need to be careful around these areas and keep children and pets well away.
Snowmobilers and other ice going adventurers are also being reminded to check the ice conditions before heading out and to double check them when you get to the ice.
