Huntsville’s Kyle ‘The Monster’ Nelson nearly had the win.
Last night in Ottawa the 145-pound UFC fighter had his opponent, American Matt Sayles in a choke hold and appeared seconds away from victory. The Californian managed to work a hand into the vise-like grip Nelson had on him and survived the round.
In the third, a miscue from Nelson allowed Sayles to pounce and force a submission tapout.
The first round was all Sayles, who produced a flurry of punches and kicks, stunning Nelson at times.
Nelson is now 12-3 as a pro, but 0-2 in the UFC. He lost his first fight in December at an event in Toronto when he was brought in as a last moment replacement.
He has two fights left on his current UFC contract.
It was the first victory for Sayles in the UFC, who had a 7-2 record in other pro MMA fights.
