Home Depot raising funds to help Muskoka youth find jobs

HUNTSVILLE, ON – Customers of the Home Depot in Huntsville will be able to help local youth find jobs for the next few weeks.

During this time customers at the checkout will be asked if they would like to donate $2 towards YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka Employment Services. Money raised is used to provide local youth and young adults with support to help improve their future through employment services such as job training and readiness, mentorship services, and education.

The YMCA also connects youth to other community partners to help overcome employment barriers.

Mary Ellen Fetterly, Team Leader, YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka Employment Services, Huntsville said the program is an important support piece for local youth.

“There are a number of social determinants affecting the health and wellbeing of youth in our community. Being able to work, contribute to one’s community, and having a sense of belonging are important factors that play a role in eradicating homelessness,” said Fetterly, in a news release.

“Some of the youth who visit our centre are homeless, unemployed and have little or no support in the community. The money raised through this fundraiser will help us address some of these social issues by providing employment training skills and connecting youth with the community around them. We are very thankful for the Home Depot in Huntsville.”

People can also donate through the Orange Door Project fundraising campaign by clicking here.

The Home Depot Canada Foundation supports 120 organizations that are committed to preventing and ending youth homelessness across the country.
