BRACEBRIDGE, ON – With turtles making their annual migration for nesting in the Muskoka area, a walk in support of the reptiles is taking place.
On Saturday, June 15th turtle enthusiasts will be meeting at Kelvin Grove Park in Bracebridge to celebrate all things turtle.
Organizers say it is the year of the tartan turtle, so people are being encouraged to wear plaid or a turtle themed costume. This event is sponsored by the Turtle Guardians program; a collaborative of 10 charities and organizations working to save Ontario’s turtles.
T5 fundraising helps with various turtle related initiatives including identifying locations of turtles, creating turtle tunnels for the safe passage of the reptiles under roads and triage and treatment at the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre in Haliburton, home of Ontario’s only turtle hospital.
It runs from 10:00 am to noon, and there is no cost to attend.
There will be prizes for the best costumes, signs and there will also be skill testing questions during the walk.
