GRAVENHURST, ON – Big Macs are getting turned into community giving.
At the grand re-opening and 30th Anniversary of the newly refurbished McDonalds in Gravenhurst sales of the signature burger from the previous seven days were contributed to Community Living South Muskoka. That amount has not been tabulated yet.
A cheque for $5,000 was also presented to Colin Miller of the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation, which was turned into $10,000 after local philanthropist Brock Napier of Minett matched the donation.
For franchise owner Alan Cumber it is a great way to give back to the community that has supported his business for the past 30 years.
“The hospital has been the foundation of our whole community,” he said. “And Community Living is another great group that needs support and we certainly appreciate the mayor’s direction of his charity of choice, South Muskoka Community Living.”
Cumber was pleased to see the donation amount increased with the matching amount.
“When $5,000 gets doubled to $10,000 that’s just great for our hospital and we want to keep on contributing in as many different ways as we can to support the hospital that supports our community.”
The new look of the McDonald’s and the McCafe includes USB chargers and computer plugs at some tables, allowing people who are working away from the home or office a place to get key tasks done while getting a bite to eat.
“We have free WIFI in our restaurants and so there is some improvements to the store that will help people continue on with their day to day life without having to drive in their car, they can do it here when they stop,” said Cumber.
