YWCA and Huntsville restaurants allow community to give the gift of a hot meal

HUNTSVILLE, ON – Local residents can help those less fortunate and anonymously give someone a hot meal who otherwise couldn’t afford it.

The Gift a Meal program was launched this month by the YWCA of Muskoka in partnership with Circles®. The program enlisted Westside Fish and Chips, Family Place restaurant, Main St Local Kitchen, and Bears Den Restaurant.

The YWCA said in a release that community members can donate a meal in advance to someone in need through vouchers. They can be bought in different quantities ranging from $5 to $25 at the participating restaurants.

People in the community recognized as trying to “get ahead” in life were given a participant card. They can use the card at any of the four restaurants to redeem a meal.

Circles® is a community-based initiative that matches low-income families with community volunteers. It is funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and has a goal of raising awareness and opening new doors for those trying to get out of poverty.

The YWCA said the community has responded positively to the Gift a Meal program. Anyone looking to get involved can contact the YWCA or go to any of the participating restaurants.
