Local SPCA looking for more items to sell at Yard and Bake Sale

BRACEBRIDGE, ON – Any animal lovers looking to get rid of some extra junk around the house or looking to turn someone else trash into their own treasure is in luck this weekend.

The Bracebridge SPCA is holding its 5th Annual Yard and Bake Sale to help support the shelter.

Heather Campbell is an animal care attendant with the SPCA and said the group is still accepting items.

“A lot of household and garden items are big sellers,” Campbell said. “The furniture that gets dropped off is always very hot too. We are open to pretty much anything though. If you are getting rid of it, we will probably take it.”

She added 100 per cent of the proceeds will go towards taking care of the animals at the shelter. Campbell said costs pile up pretty quickly with every future pet being spade and neutered, along with other general medical care.

The attendant added the animals will also be up for adoption on top of the other items for sale.

“We have lots of cats and kittens,” Campbell said. “We have had a few litters come in in the last little while. We had lots of dogs at the beginning of last week but we are down to just a couple right now.”

She added the SPCA will have their regular adoption hours of noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. There will be a room open where anyone interested can hang out with the animals to see if they are compatible.

The animal care attendant said the organization doesn’t have a specific monetary goal though.

“We are just hoping it is a success,” Campbell said. “We are normally up to around $10,000 so if we can get there, that’s great, but every little bit helps.”

The event runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Bracebridge SPCA.
