Norm Miller wants federal funding for two new local road projects

PARRY SOUND, ON – More jobs could be coming to the area if two new major road projects are approved.

Parry-Sound Muskoka MPP Norm Miller nominated the Ogemawahj Road Reconstruction project in Georgian Bay Township and the Wawbawzee Road Reconstruction project on Wasauksing First Nation to the federal government.

He made the announcement in a press release.

Miller hopes both plans will be accepted by the Rural and Northern stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

“All these projects will create jobs now and ensure our infrastructure is in good shape in the future,” Miller said in the release. “I hope that the federal government will approve these projects in short order so that work can be started as soon as possible.”

The Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program will provide up to $30 billion in federal, provincial and local investments across Ontario over a 10 year period. Funds are distributed between Rural and Northern, Public Transit, Green and Community, Culture and Recreation sectors.

The federal government will make final funding decisions after reviewing the projects.

“We’re continuing to work with municipalities, families and businesses, to make smart investments in our infrastructure, and keep it reliable,” Minister of Infrastructure Laurie Scott said in the release. “Our investments are creating jobs and growing the economy, shaping the future for hard-working families in Ontario.”

Miller’s two new nominations are on top of four others submitted in May.

They include the Etwell Bridge replacement in Huntsville, Snider’s Bay Bridge replacement in Gravenhurst, the Yonge Street rehabilitation in Burk’s Falls and the Black Bridge replacement in Bracebridge.

In total, more than $7 million worth of projects in Parry Sound-Muskoka has been nominated.
