GRAVENHURST, ON – The Town of Gravenhurst is taking on the Canadian mint.
It has created its own currency called Gravenhurst Dollars. In actual fact, it is a new way to promote Gravenhurst businesses through gift certificates that can only be used at local retailers.
Gravenhurst Dollars come in $10 amounts and can be redeemed at over 40 stores, shops and restaurants. They don’t expire and can be used like cash where accepted.
Jeff Loney, manager of Economic Development for the town, said a previous version of the program saw money being brought into the town.
“To date, this program has circulated over $5,000 into the business community,” said Loney. “The new Town website gave us an opportunity to enhance the program and encourage more people to discover all the amazing products and services we have here.”
