BRACEBRIDGE, ON – Usually people don’t wash their cars when it rains, but not all car washes are created equal either.
On Sunday, kids from around Muskoka and as far as Parry Sound helped a BBQ and carwash to raise money for the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation (SMHF).
Cailan Punnewaert was the brainchild behind the idea.
“It was a big success,” Punnewaert said. “We had a lot of cars come in and a lot of volunteers. We raised a lot of money.”
The group raised $1,500 at the carwash and the Bracebridge Rotary club matched the total up to $1,000.
Punnewaert said the donations will go towards getting an infant warmer for the hospital in town.
According to Leah Walker, the development officer with the SMHF, the machine could help save lives.
“Especially for those born premature or with low birth weight,” Walker said. “It regulates their body temperature.”
Walker said the warmer costs a total of $45,000, so there is still a long way to go.
Punnewaert said anyone who missed out on the event or businesses looking to help out can still make donations. They are just asked to contact the SMHF and tell them they’d like to donate towards the Kids Who Care Carwash.
