Hope Arises recruiting leadership, volunteers

Indigenous not-for-profit Hope Arises is looking for new members.

Joyce Crone, president of the Huntsville-based organization, says they’re recruiting community members for the positions of vice-president, treasurer, secretary, and board members.

“We’re looking for particular skillsets, whether that be in business or education,” says Crone. “People who want to make a difference, people who have the time and energy to put in it.”

According to Crone, duties range from managing finances, organizing events, and helping make decisions to determine the not-for-profit’s future.

“We’d like to increase the size of our board by a little bit so that we have both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people working together at the same table and making a difference towards Truth and Reconciliation,” Crone says.

Currently on the radar are educational workshops on cultural competency, ribbon skirts, and one led by Elder Jan Beaver, as well as helping to coordinate Huntsville’s Orange Shirt Day event in September.

Crone notes the organization has recently gone national, taking on an Indigenous education contract at a British Columbia private school. “We are only six months old as a not-for-profit and we’ve accomplished so much in just a short time, so we are in a period of growth and change.”

You can apply before July 21 via Hope Arises’ website, as well as by contacting [email protected] or on social media.
