A large cottage on Lake Joseph was destroyed by fire on Monday.
According to the Muskoka Lakes Fire Department, firefighters were called to the lake at Muskoka Rd. 118 around 4:00 p.m., finding the cottage fully engulfed and flames spreading to nearby vegetation.
Officials say the cottage’s three occupants and their dog were outside the building at the time and were alerted by a passing boater that their roof was on fire. No injuries were reported.
The department says more tankers and fire boats were called in as firefighting efforts continued, and they were able to save a boathouse, carport, and garage. Total damage is estimated at $2.5-million.
