Another family has found a more comfortable place to live, thanks to Habitat for Humanity Ontario Gateway North.
Stephanie and her four children, ranging from 11 to 19 years old, will move out of her mother’s unfinished basement and into an affordable home in Gravenhurst.
According to Stephanie, her aunt and grandmother also live in her mother’s house, leaving only half a basement with a single light for her and her kids to share.
“We all share one open space with a bathroom,” says Stephanie. “I’ve been sharing a bed with my daughter for three years. My oldest son had to make a makeshift wall using old cabinets and shelves so he could have some privacy and be able to sleep before going to work in the mornings.”
Habitat officials say the home used to belong to a different Habitat partner family, who have been able to save up enough money to buy a business and move to a different community.
They add another repurchased home in Bracebridge is set to be occupied later this year.
