UPDATED Nov. 24 3:34 p.m.: Power has been mostly restored to area, facilities reopened.
Power has been restored to most of downtown Huntsville after Friday morning’s truck crash.
Tarmo Uukkivi, Huntsville’s Director of Operations and Protective Services, says that includes all affected town facilities, but some residents will be without power into the evening.
He says a large truck carrying a gravel conveyor had crashed into a main pole at Brunel Road and Veterans Way, knocking out power to the area.
“Right now the outage seems to run from the south side of Main Street all the way down to approximately Park Road in the south end,” says Uukkivi. “East to west, it’s running from basically the river to at least Lorne [Street].”
Uukkivi says Brunel Road from Park Street to High Street, and Veterans Way from West Street to Brunel Road, remain closed for public safety, as Lakeland crews disentangle the truck from downed lines and repair the damage.
Meanwhile, the Canada Summit Centre, Active Living Centre, Huntsville Public Library, and Town Hall have reopened to the public. Summit Centre programming has been cancelled for the day, as well as tonight’s Junior C Otters game.
