Huntsville Hospital reopens nuclear medicine suite

The nuclear medicine suite at the Huntsville Hospital is back with a $2.6-million upgrade.

Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare says the new state-of-the-art system replaces one that was at the end of its life, largely thanks to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation’s Focus on Imaging campaign.

Officials say it provides faster imaging as well as improved image quality, and can perform CT scans alongside nuclear medicine exams to eliminate the need for extra appointments.

“The Diagnostic Imaging team is thrilled to have resumed Nuclear Medicine services in a new, state-of-the-art suite. Our new machine includes CT capabilities that can provide backup/redundancy during any downtime of our main CT scanner in order to minimize interruptions to patient care”, says Dr. Jason Blaichman, Director and Chief of Diagnostic Imaging. “Since the reopening, our patient population can once again receive their essential nuclear medicine exams without having to leave Muskoka.”

According to the agency, the Huntsville Hospital performs up to 2,000 nuclear medicine exams every year.
