No one was injured but a two-story industrial dryer was destroyed after an explosion at Panolam Industries Inc. in Huntsville.
The business is based at 61 Domtar Rd.
Grant Murchison, fire prevention officer for the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department, says it happened on Jan. 20. and was originally reported as a fire.
He says when firefighters got to the scene, they found scattered debris from the dryer. Murchison adds it’s on the side of the building and is used to dry wood dust. He says the fire was put out with support coming from Panolam’s industrial fire brigade.
The interior of the plant was unaffected.
Murchison says the cause of the fire is under investigation.
“The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department would like to remind the community that only properly maintained fire protection systems will be effective at protecting life and property,” says Murchison. “If you are concerned about the fire and life safety systems in your building or workplace you are encouraged to contact the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department’s fire prevention division.”
