Brearley continues hot start to snowboarding season

Gravenhurst’s Liam Brearley won gold in the Thayers Men’s Snowboard Knuckle Huck competition at Winter X Games 28 in Aspen, Colorado.

The 20-year-old’s winning trick saw him swipe the ground as he launched off the ramp, do a backflip, spin around multiple times, and land flawlessly.

He was joined on the podium by American Zeb Powell and fellow Canadian Darcy Sharpe.

Brearley has a chance to add more hardware to his trophy cabinet at the X Games. He will compete in a few other competitions, including the big air snowboarding event.

It has been a whirlwind week for Brearley who won his first World Cup event on Jan. 21 in Switzerland.
