Four Muskoka communities are getting almost $200,000 from the province to better respond to emergencies.
The money is part of the $5-million Community Emergency Preparedness Grant set aside for small Ontario communities this year:
- Lake of Bays: $50,000 to install a propane and transfer switches for its evacuation centres.
- Moose Deer Point First Nation: $50,000 to upgrade communications for emergency responders, and purchase household emergency preparedness kits, supplied with items such as first aid, food, water, blankets, and radios.
- Muskoka Lakes: $49,600 to buy portable radios, high visibility vests, and firefighter coveralls for its wildland fire protection plan.
- Gravenhurst: $45,000 to buy wildland fire equipment, such as sprinkler kits, pumps, valves, adapters, hoses, hand tools, fuel cans, and fire ladder.
Officials add $110-million has been earmarked to help emergency preparedness over the next three years.
