No one injured after structure fire on McKenzie St. in Gravenhurst

The Gravenhurst Fire Department spent close to eight hours Thursday battling a fire at a home on McKenzie St.

According to a post on the fire department’s X, formerly known as Twitter, account, they arrived just after 9 a.m. and left the scene around 5 p.m.

The fire departments from Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes were called in for support.

“No injuries to occupants, pets, or firefighters reported,” it says in the post. “Homeowners were not home at the time [of the fire].”

They estimate $650,000 in damage was caused by the blaze, which is not being considered suspicious.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire before it spread to nearby homes.

Theresa Buker, who runs the Facebook page dedicated to supporting people in need, is collecting needed items for the family of four that was displaced by the fire.

She’s asking for cash or gifts cards.

“This will allow them to buy immediate needs like clothes, shoes, socks, underwear, and personal care items,” says Buker. “This empowers them towards a sense of normal in a situation that is anything but normal. This will help them heal faster from this trauma.”

She says anyone who is able to support can send an e-transfer to [email protected] or drop off your donation to 375 Muskoka Beach Rd. in Gravenhurst.

“Let’s not overwhelm them with truckloads of physical items, but wrap them in community love,” says Buker.
