Ontario Heritage Conference starts today in Gravenhurst

The Town of Gravenhurst is hosting the Ontario Heritage Conference this year.

The event is starting today (June 13) at Residence Inn Gravenhurst Muskoka Wharf and ending on Saturday at Muskoka Discovery Centre.

Officials say almost 170 delegates are in town for the event with conference activities based at various locations throughout the community, including a historic walking tour of Muskoka Wharf, a tour of Bethune House, and tours of exhibits at the Muskoka Discovery Centre and more.

“On behalf of council and staff, I want to welcome delegates to our community,” Mayor Heidi Lorenz said. “We hope you have an enjoyable stay in Gravenhurst, a town that plays a proud part in the iconic story of Muskoka. Gravenhurst has a rich history intertwined with the natural beauty all around us. Have fun exploring and we hope you will consider a return visit in the future.”

Town officials say conference sessions will cover a variety of topics, including storytelling through technology, heritage property ownership and restoration, and more.

“Our hope is that people leave the conference with a renewed passion for heritage in Ontario and a greater understanding of the vast and colourful history of Gravenhurst,” said Amy Taylor, the town’s manager of economic development and a member of the local committee that helped organize the conference.

The Town adds each delegate will be provided with a $50 gift card to spend in town.
