Bracebridge looking for authors to support town’s 150th anniversary

The Town of Bracebridge is looking for authors to create a story for the Storybook Trail at the Woodchester Villa.

Jennifer Clancy, manager of economic development, says the children’s story should have between 700 to 1,000 words across seven pages and one cover. She asks for submissions to only include the written aspect of the story, explaining the illustrations will be done separately.

Clancy adds this is a legacy project for the town, which will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2025. She asks the story include aspects of either Bracebridge’s past, present, or future.

She says the chosen author could get up to $1,000.

Applications will be accepted through the town’s website until Sept. 20 with Clancy expecting the new story to be installed in the summer of 2025.

“It’s extremely important to the community to recognize and celebrate its anniversary,” says Clancy. “Where we’ve come from, where we are now, and where we’re heading in the future.”

The Storybook Trail was unveiled in Nov. 2022 featuring Courtney Murrell’s story Penny and the Trail of Wonders and illustrations by Kristin Wright.
