Gravenhurst kicks off the month with concert series

Gravenhurst is set to start August with multiple concerts at Muskoka Wharf and Gull Lake Rotary.

Autumn Smith, artistic and executive director of Littlewoodsmith/TimberBeast Productions, says they are doing eight different concerts starting next week from Aug. 5 to 8 and the following week from Aug. 12 to the 15 at 8 p.m.

“There’s so much going on in the town itself. We wanted to do a music series highlighting some of our core artists and some special guests,” says Smith. “This music really elevates joy and brings people together.”

Smith says they have been producing professional theater and music in the area for the past couple of years.

“Last year we did a Broadway on the barge series, and this is kind of like a reinvigoration of that process where we’re not only doing Broadway, but we’re expanding to do a Canadian songbook,” adds Smith. “We’re bringing in special guests, who play Celtic music and jazz. This is just a growing of what we started last year.”

She adds the entry is free, but anyone who wants to donate is welcome as it goes back to help them create new stories and content in the coming months. Smith says they are building a “very ambitious” theatrical season next year with a larger production.

“Our next production will be in the winter. We’re bringing back our annual Gravenhurst Christmas Carol,” shares Smith.  “It’s going to be bigger and better than ever.”
