The Township of Lake of Bays (Lake of Bays) has released its Draft Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) By-law, and the township wants your say on how it develops.
Officials say the MAT by-law aims to support and grow local tourism initiatives, such as area promotion, trail system improvements, and the expansion of local events, among others.
The draft includes a proposed tax rate of 4 per cent on motels, resorts, B&Bs, and short-term rentals lasting 30 days or less, and would be paid by visitors and not the accommodation providers.
Town officials say the estimated annual revenue could range from $750,000 to $1.5 million.
Residents are asked to both complete a survey (which will remain open until Oct. 18.) and attend the Nov. 12 council meeting to provide feedback on it.
