39th Annual Evan Luker Fun Run returns to Bracebridge

For the 39th year in a row, the tradition honouring the late Evan Luker is taking place on Thursday (Oct. 10) at Macaulay Public School in Bracebridge.

The Evan Luker Fun Run kicks off at 9:30 a.m. and continues through the day, with students of every age running the course around the school.

Brian Andreasen, a teacher at Macaulay Public School, says they are expecting over 600 runners over the course of the event.

“Our morning run will be our oldest runners from grades 8 through 5. Then, starting at 12:30 in the afternoon, we’ll have students from grades 4 through 1 running their races,” says Andreasen. “It’s always a great festive atmosphere filled with determined runners and cheering supporters.”

Officials say the tradition was started one year after Luker died in a car accident when he was nine years old in December 1985.

They add the runs to honour Luker, who had a passion for running.

The run is scheduled for this Thursday, but in case of bad weather, it will be re-scheduled for Friday (Oct. 11).
