There are some new doctors coming to Huntsville.
The Town of Huntsville says since launching its Physician Incentive Program in May 2024, two new physicians have signed the agreement, one’s in the process of signing, and three more are anticipated to sign next summer.
Of the six, two are establishing a new practice with the others taking over an existing one.
The program sees physicians get a monetary incentive, along with a list of other perks, in exchange for five years of service.
At a general committee earlier this week, council approved another incentive which would allow staff to offer $70,000 for any physician who takes over an existing practice and takes 200 Huntsville patients off the Algonquin Health Team waitlist.
Councillor Bob Stone says they are encouraged by the positive response to the program.
“It’s so great to see these results in such a short time frame – two doctors already signed, and several more are pending. It’s exciting to know that patients who have been waiting so very long for primary care are finally being taken off the waitlist,” says Stone.
The current program offers $60,000 for taking over a family practice and up to $80,000 for establishing a new one.
