Everything is ready for the second annual Breakfast Gala event to help kids experiencing hunger across Muskoka.
The event hosted by Food4Kids Muskoka will take place on Nov.12 at Deerhurst Resort.
Kristie Shaver, Marketing and Communications Manager, says the event will celebrate how far they have gone with the Weekends Without Hunger program.
“[We started by] feeding just seven children, and now [we have] a goal of reaching 400 kids by the end of this year,” says Shaver. “We are so excited to celebrate the incredible impact we’ve made in our first year and look forward to building on that momentum.”
She says it’s estimated a thousand kids in Muskoka experience food insecurity on weekends.
“It is really just bridging that gap for families and kids who might not have easy access to food banks,” continues Shaver.
Shaver says they pack bags of nutritious foods on Wednesdays, and on Thursday they are delivered to the school where they are put into the backpacks of the kids who are registered with the program.
Even though the event is sold out, Shaver says those interested can still donate through their website.
“With the generous support of our community, we are ensuring that more children will have access to healthy meals on weekends, giving them the fuel they need to succeed in school and beyond,” says Shaver.
