Holiday Train to stop MacTier this Saturday

The 2024 CPKC Holiday Train will tour Muskoka on Saturday (Nov. 30) to address food insecurity in the region.

The Holiday Train will stop in MacTier at 3 p.m. for a free live performance at the CPKC Station.

Terry Cunha, CPKC spokesman, says all the funds and food collected will go towards supporting the MacTier food bank.

“This is our 26th year of doing the holiday train,” says Cunha. “We’ve been able to raise $24.3 million for local food banks and have collected over 5.3 million pounds of food.”

He says this year, they are going to 167 communities during the four-week holiday train campaign, adding they feel grateful to always have the support of community members.

“The key thing here to remember is everything that’s raised stays local,” says Cunha. “At every stop, we work with a local organization to raise money and food for their community members.”

Cunha says this year, they have Tyler Shaw and Shawnee Kish as their performers.

“All we’re asking is for you to come out, enjoy yourself, bring your friends, bring your neighbours, and have a great time and bring a nonperishable food item to help collect to your food bank, raise funds and collect food during the holiday season to support those in need,” says Cunha.
