Work continues for River Mill Park washrooms reopening

Vandalism costs have caused the public washrooms at River Mill Park to be closed for over a month.

Denise Corry, Chief Administrative Officer with the Town of Huntsville, says the washrooms have significant damage to the automated doors and walls since their installation in July.

“Washrooms have actually been closed for most of December, and they will continue to be closed due to the extent of the damage, the availability of the contractor, and obtaining parts over the holiday season,” says Corry.

Corry says they are looking at an alternate solution for the doors as the type currently on the building is not “very feasible.”

“We’re looking at other options that hopefully will help make vandalism a little bit more difficult, specifically with the doors,” shares Corry.

She says they are also dealing with vandalism in the public washrooms located at Club 55.

“We’ve also been advised that there have been a number of incidents of vandalism just within the downtown, whether it’s to businesses or private or public property,” she says.

Corry says they have been in discussions with the OPP about how they can mitigate any future vandalism in the community.

“We are working with the OPP and looking at putting video surveillance cameras at Mill Park to cover quite a few areas that we’re seeing some issues with, and we hope to have those installed sooner rather than later,” says Corry.

Even though there is no re-opening date for the River Mill Park washrooms, Corry says they are committed to continuing to work to make sure the service is available soon.
