The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit will begin suspending students in grades four, five, as early as next Tuesday (Feb. 4) if they have missing or incomplete vaccination records.
That’s in accordance with the Immunization of Schools Pupils Act (ISPA), which requires health units to maintain vaccine records for every student attending school and enforce suspensions for incomplete vaccine information.
Officials say as of today, there are 2745 outstanding records. They add currently, 86 per cent of Gr. four, five and six students in Simcoe Muskoka have up-to-date immunization records on file with the health unit.
The health unit says immunizations by appointment at office locations in Huntsville, Gravenhurst, Barrie, Midland, Orillia, Cookstown and Collingwood. From Feb. 3 to 5, the health unit will also accept walk-ins.
Officials say following immunization, student records are updated immediately, allowing students to return to school.
