Of three races so far, Ashley Campbell has won two. The 15-year-old Huntsville High School student is in Collingwood this week to compete in the Under-16 Alpine Skiing National Championships. She first raced on Tuesday in super-G and won by around two seconds. Super-G, which stands for super giant slalom, is a combination of downhill racing and slalom.
Campbell’s second race was on Wednesday in super combined, which consists of a shortened downhill or super-G run, followed by a slalom run according to Alpine Canada. The teenager crashed out and didn’t finish that race. However, she made a comeback on Thursday when she won her third race in giant slalom. Alpine Canada describes giant slalom as a longer slalom course with at least 30 gates. Skiers race twice, and the fastest combined score wins. Campbell won that race by less than a second.
Campbell was named The Top Ranked Ontario Athlete going into the national competition, which runs until Sunday.
