The Bracebridge Rotary Club has improved one resident’s bank account by over $37,000.
Marleen Neal was playing the Chase the Ace lottery and selected envelope 23. It contained the target of many people’s desires, the ace of spades. That resulted in a payday of $37,060.
The Chase the Ace lottery, run by the Bracebridge Rotary Club and South Muskoka Hospital Foundation, started in January of this year. So far more than $59,000 has been awarded. There is also a net benefit of $20,000 to each organization.
Andrew Smellie is the Rotary Club President. He says the money raised will help in a number of areas. “The funds raised by the lottery will benefit our local South Muskoka hospital and other community programs supported by the Bracebridge Rotary Club.”
The lottery was imported from the east coast where millions have been raised by local charities.
Here’s how it works. Each week participants buy tickets. A ticket is drawn each week and the winner receives a percentage of the weekly sales. The winner also then draws a card from a standard deck of playing cards. If the ace of spades is drawn that weekly winner wins the accumulated jackpot.
