BRACEBRIDGE, ON – There was a Christmas flavour at the Muskoka Lawn Bowling Club this week.
Santa Claus made a guest appearance this past Tuesday, throwing a few ends at the club’s first annual fundraiser called ‘Christmas in July’. Club President Sally Mills said the idea was embraced by the club and incorporating a toy drive was a natural fit.
“Our very ‘social’ club loved the theme, and they decided to hold the toy drive as a way to give back to our wonderful community,” explained Mills We were pleased to collect a huge box of toys, which will be donated to the MooseFM’s Salvation Army toy drive in December. We had such a great time that we plan to hold our ‘Christmas in July’ event on an annual basis.”
Santa showed some mad lawn bowling skills at the club’s facility, which it shares with Muskoka Highlands Golf Club, keeping his ball well within the lanes.
Tom Young and John Jeffery represented Santa’s Village as part of the promotional day.
Club members, decked out in green and red clothing took it all in on a warm day before retreating to the clubhouse for turkey sandwiches and Christmas cookies for dessert. No word on whether any eggnog braved the 28 C temperatures on the day.
