Dog Fest popular with humans and pooches alike

BRACEBRIDGE, ON – Fans of dogs were plenty excited as the Third Annual Dog Fest took place in Bracebridge.

With everything from timed obstacle racing, to dock dogs leaping into the water to agility competitions and fashion shows there appeared to be something for everyone.

Over two days hundreds attended the show at its new location at Morrison Meadows.

Mark Gross is one of the co-organizers of the event and he says one of the keys was to make the event fun for dog owners and comfortable in the summer heat for dogs.

“We have 11 pools, 55 water bowls and we have a breeze which is really cool,” said Gross.

One of the biggest draws for people attending the show is watching the Aqua Dog show, which has dogs leaping off a dock after a toy and the total jump measured for competition purposes.

“We’re a competitive series that runs all the way around Ontario and Quebec,” explained Aqua Dogs organizer Russ Bricker. “(We are) jumping dogs to see who has the longest jumping dog, the fastest swimming dog and the highest jumping dogs in Canada.”

The Lure Course is also popular with spectators, as owners work with all breeds of dogs to navigate obstacle courses in a timed event. From big dogs down to toy breeds, people cheered all the efforts from the participating human/pooch teams.
